Food Ministry

Each month, Christ Church Bronxville holds one food drive benefitting St. James Church, Fordham (held on the first Sunday of each month). Any questions about the St. James collection can be directed to the Parish Administrator at christchurch@ccbny.org

For more information about the collection, including the shopping list, please visit our Food Drive webpage here.

Midnight Run

Midnight Run is a volunteer organization dedicated to finding common ground between the housed and the homeless. Throughout the year, Midnight Run volunteers distribute food, clothing, blankets and personal care items to those experiencing homelessness on the streets of New York City. The late-night relief efforts create a forum for trust, sharing, understanding, and affection. That human exchange, rather than the exchange of goods, is the essence of the Midnight Run mission. For more information and to participate, contact Mother Kathryn Reinhard at kreinhard@ccbny.org.

Christ Church also offers Breakfast Runs several times a year. Our middle schoolers distribute breakfast and essential items to those experiencing homelessness and hunger.

HOPE Community Services

HOPE (Help Our People Eat) opened its first soup kitchen in 1984, and has since grown to become the largest emergency food pantry and soup kitchen in the region. Although HOPE Community Services was founded to respond to hunger in the community, it quickly became apparent that food was not the only thing their clients were lacking. HOPE expanded its services to meet the needs of its diverse client population, and its services now include clothing, language skills, emotional support, immigration services, and other daily necessities. Christ Church partners with HOPE in many ways, including cooking for and serving in their soup kitchen, volunteering at special events, and organizing the food pantry.

Please contact Bonnie Bogdanoff or Lee Ann Newcomb to learn more!

Refugee Ministry

The CCBNY Refugee Committee works with Hearts and Homes for Refugees (HHR) to help our parish sponsor a refugee family. CCBNY has been matched with a family from Myanmar, two parents and two adult daughters, arrived in the U.S. in January, 2024. There are many ways you can volunteer, donate, and otherwise support our new neighbors. Our most immediate needs are for “task rabbit” drivers, and monetary donations for rent. For more information contact Mother Kathryn Reinhard at kreinhard@ccbny.org.

Welcome Ministry at Christ Church

Each week our Ushers and Greeters joyfully meet the congregation, new and old, as they arrive to church. They help visitors find seats, direct children to Church School, and answer questions. Like many of our members, they are excited to share why Christ Church is a wonderful place to belong. To participate, contact Karen Carpenter at sheerkaren@aol.com.

There is a festive coffee hour for our parishioners to meet and greet each other after every 10:00 AM service on Sundays. Every week a different group of dedicated volunteers works to set up and sponsor this coffee hour, and we welcome new people to participate in this. For more information, contact the parish administrator at christchurch@ccbny.org.

Altar Guild at Christ Church

The Altar Guild prepares the church for worship. Members care for, clean and maintain the vestments, altar linens, silver, and books. Meetings to discuss upcoming liturgies and the church calendar are held periodically from September to May. The Vestry purchases wine, wafers, candles, linen and housekeeping supplies, while donations are used for new vestments and altar arrays. To participate in this ministry, contact Hershell George at hg@hgdnyc.com, or Heather Scholes at hjelling@yahoo.com.

Acolytes and Serving at Christ Church

Our wonderful services depend on the participation of many volunteers who serve a number of important liturgical functions, from subdeacons and lectors, to clerks and torchbearers. Young people are especially encouraged to participate. For more information on this ministry, contact Hershell George at hg@hgdnyc.com, or Heather Scholes at hjelling@yahoo.com.

Sunday School at Christ Church

Our Sunday school is run by a core group of dedicated teachers and volunteers. If you are interested in becoming part of the team, contact Jillian Madocs at children@hgdnyc.com.
