Music

St. Augustine said that “singing is praying twice.” At Christ Church Bronxville we celebrate the gift of music in our lives and its ability to open us up to the holy. It transforms us and transcends our daily lives. Our choirs lift up our congregation, and are lifted themselves, through the tremendous gift of making music in God’s name.

The Christ Church Choir (Adults) This gifted and dedicated group offers their time and talent to the CCBNY community, particularly as leaders in worship. They sing a wide variety of music from Renaissance polyphony to modern compositions. The Choir leads the Sunday 10:00 a.m. services, with extra music offerings, especially during Advent, Christmas and Easter. The choral season runs from September through May and includes weekly evening rehearsals on Wednesdays. During the summer session, there are no weekday rehearsals. Seasonal highlights often include two concerts, which are presented by the Choir as well as professional instrumentalists. Evensong is offered every fourth Sunday at 5:00pm. There are 9 staff singer positions within the approximately 20 members of the Christ Church Choir. Rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings from 7 -9 p.m.

Parish Choir Periodically through the year volunteers gather to enjoy the choir experience without making a weekly commitment. Look out in the announcements of your service bulletin for upcoming dates, or email Philip Stopford for more information.

Handbell Choir This dedicated ensemble rehearses on Monday evenings, 7-8 p.m., and is directed by Deborah Cook. They play several times each year in church and add a new dimension of sound to worship. As with all of our musical groups, the Handbell Ringers welcome anyone to participate, although prior experience with reading music is helpful. Christ Church Bronxville has three octaves of Malmark Handbells and 3 octaves of Malmark Chimes as a part of our collection of musical instruments.
