Giving Tree at Westhab

Christ Church is partnering with Westhab once again for their annual Giving Tree! This year, we will work to make Christmas merrier for 30 Westhab families! CLICK ON THIS LINK to choose a family on our Virtual “Giving Tree” for whom to buy Christmas presents. After you sign up, Mtr. Kathryn (kreinhard@ccbny.org) will email you with information about your family, wish list items, and instructions for wrapping and tagging. Please limit your purchases to $20-$30 per child. Gifts can be dropped off at the church anytime up until December 14th, so they can be delivered to families in advance of the holidays. Thank you for your generosity and for making this Christmas special for our neighbors!

Westhab is the largest nonprofit provider of affordable housing and supportive services in Westchester. Since 1981, they have helped more than 5,000 homeless families and individuals move into their own apartments and developed over 900 units of affordable housing. Each year more than 1,200 homeless or at-risk youth participate in their youth programs, hundreds of families in underserved neighborhoods get help in their community centers, 250 people find new jobs through their employment programs, and 850 people call their properties home.

Discovering Advent

The letters written to Paul’s disciple Timothy contain detailed instructions for the types of teaching that Christian leaders should—and also should not—be giving in the context of the powerful cultural forces of the ancient world. Community Events

Join us for the second CCB Movie Night: Friday December 12!

The first CCB Night was a wonderful success with almost 30 people watching Groundhog Day and enjoying a delightful discussion moderated by our own Catharine Park. Join us again at 6:30 PM on Friday, December 12 in Crispell Lounge for a film screening of Ikiru and moderated discussion. Refreshments will also be served.'

Ikiru (“To Live”), a 1952 Japanese drama directed by award-winning Akira Kurosawa, examines the struggles of a terminally ill Tokyo businessman and his final quest for meaning. The film’s major themes include learning how to live, inefficiency of bureaucracy, and decaying family life in Japan, which have been the subject of analysis by academics and critics for decades. It is widely considered one of the greatest films of all time and perhaps Kurosawa’s masterpiece. Together we can unravel some of the profound themes in the movie and discuss its impact.

CCB parishioner and curator of our Friday Movie Nights Catharine Park is a documentary filmmaker who has directed and executive produced documentary features and series for Netflix, Peacock, National Geographic, Starz, A+E, and the History Channel, among others. She is a member of the D.G.A and a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College.

Our series of CCB Movie Nights are spearheaded by the vestry events committee along with Catharine Park and fellow parishioner Brigid McMaster, who originated the idea for this exciting event. More movie nights are coming this spring. See you there!
