For Adults

We are all at different stages of our spiritual pilgrimage. Our Adult Education programs are designed to provide fruitful opportunities for reflection, fellowship, education and spiritual growth to help us along the way. It is our hope and our belief that participating in these programs will enrich our lives, soothe our souls and bring great joy.

Christ Church Gatherings (CCG)
Our CCGs are times for the entire Christ Church family to come together for Food, Education, Formation and Fellowship. Supper begins at 6:00 PM in Taylor Hall, followed by the program at 6:30 PM. Most CCGs are for the entire family, while others feature an Adult Formation program in Taylor Hall complemented by children’s activities in the Undercroft or Crispell Lounge. Keep an eye out for this year’s offerings.

Sunday Short Series
This seminar series is led by our theologian-in-residence, the Rev. Dr. Amy Lamborn, to investigate specific topics of our faith in a combined lecture/discussion group style. “Sunday Shorts” meets after the Sunday 10:00 AM service for four consecutive Sundays, three times a year, and all are welcome to drop in to any class without a formal commitment to attend the whole series.

Working Mother’s Fellowship (WMF)
WMF meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Crispell Lounge. We share a little wine and cheese and reflect on finding grace in the midst of juggling kids, job, parents, home, church, spouse, and an ever-expanding to-do list. If you are a working mom with a sense of humor who sometimes feels she’s hanging by a thread, join us for a low-key yet uplifting evening.

Sunday Luncheons
Throughout the year, on the same days as Youth Sunday services, we hold festive luncheons. All parishioners are invited to help make these wonderful occasions and opportunities for old and new friends to meet and catch up. For more information, please contact the Church Office.

Arts & Spirituality
Recognizing the significance of the arts in spiritual formation, Christ Church offers many opportunities during the year to deepen our awareness of God’s presence as both observers and practitioners of various art forms by making use of the vast resources within our parish and the greater New York area. Events planned for this year include a visit to the newly restored Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a close look at the inspiring choir book illustrations from the Italian Renaissance. For more information, please contact Letizia Seirup (lalvisi@garlandia.com).

Book Groups
This year we’ll be introducing two reading and discussion groups, one to meet on a weekday morning, one on a weekday evening, to involve as many people as are interested. If you’d like to participate, please contact the Rev. Amy Lamborn at alamborn@ccbny.org.

Center for Spiritual Growth
The Christ Church Center for Spiritual Growth provides opportunities for prayer, study, journaling and spiritual direction through short courses, ongoing small groups, retreats and one-on-one conversation. Its aim is to be a resource to the parish and wider community by providing ways of deepening the spiritual life of individuals and groups and strengthening the connection between prayer and service. For information about the program, please call Hondi Brasco, Director of the Center, at the church (337-3544) or at home (771-8870).

The Circle of Light
Tuesday mornings at 9:30 AM, this interfaith prayer group is actively praying and working for peace and mutual understanding, sharing the richness of our traditions as Christians, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists. If you would like to join us, please call Hondi Brasco at the Church or at home (771-8870).

The Women’s Spirituality Group
Every Thursday morning the Women’s Spirituality Group gathers in the Crispell Lounge on an informal basis for discussion, prayer and spiritual growth. Meetings are organized around biblical texts and themes, as well as books of particular interest. These meetings provide an opportunity for women to come together to listen, share ideas and discern God’s presence in our lives. For more information, call Ruth Singleton (337-6450).

Meditation Library
The Meditation Library is located downstairs and houses spiritual and theological books for our community. Parishioners are encouraged to read and savor them. The tradition of lectio divina or slow meditative reading of the Bible and inspirational books is one of the means by which we can listen and respond to God.
