Lent

2010 ERD Lenten Meditations - Healing Ourselves and a Hurting World

Traditional Lenten Regulations:

The Book of Common Prayer indicates two days of expected fasting and abstinence from meat – Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
For many Christians, Fridays in Lent have been days of special observance, generally including fasting. Traditionally, fasting has meant that one full meal per day be taken. Two smaller meals have also been allowed to maintain strength. The tradition has also been to refrain from eating meat on Fridays. Remembering Jesus’s death through some form of observance on Fridays is an important aspect of any Lenten spiritual discipline. It is our hope that these Forty Days of Lent might be well used to set our hearts, minds and souls toward “things of importance.”

Outreach During Lent at Christ Church Bronxville

Back Pack Project

Back packs are needed for the homeless and will be distributed through our Midnight Run group. Back Packs are necessary to carry items, like soap, toothbrushes, chapstick, socks, books, band aids, packaged food, water, and tissues. Our Outreach Committee is asking for your help to raise money for back packs to the homeless. We are asking for a small donation of $17.00. Please check at the front of the church for the information sheet and drop a check in the box at the office for $17.00 to Christ Church. Please note: mark on the check “Back Pack Project”. Thank you, your support means a lot.

Adult Christian Formation Offerings in Lent

Lenten Sunday Short Series-The Book of Job

February 28, March 7and March 14
The book of Job is an ancient story of a person of faith—an innocent man—who suffered great loss and endured tremendous pain, all through no fault of his own. The story raises questions about the human suffering, divine presence/absence in the midst of suffering, the issue of evil, and the nature of faith in the face of it all. All of these topics are particularly pertinent in our post 9/11, post-Katrina, post-tsunami, post-economic collapse, and post-Haiti earthquake world.
Join The Rev. Amy Lamborn for what promises to be a bible study. . .and more: All seminars will take place in the Crispell Lounge, beginning around 11:20 AM, following the 10 AM Holy Eucharist.

Introduction to Centering Prayer

February 23, March 2, March 9 and March 16
This Lent we are pleased to offer a special group that will engage in the study and practice of Centering Prayer, a silent way of listening to God through meditation.
Join the Rev. Amy Lamborn and Hondi Brosco, Director of the Center for Spiritual Life, on four successive

Tuesday evenings from 8:00 to 9:00 PM:

Each week we will spend about 20 minutes discussing short readings from Into the Silent Land: A Guide to the Christian Practice of Contemplation, by Martin Laird. We will then engage in about 20 minutes of silent prayer as a group, and we will conclude by sharing reflections that arise out of the prayer experience.
Please register in advance for this group, by emailing Amy Lamborn at alamborn@ ccbny.org. Copies of the book may be purchased through amazon.com (or another vendor of your choice). All meetings will be held in the Chapel of the Guardian Angels.
