The Trendle The custom of hanging a trendle in the chancel during the Christmas/Epiphany season derived from the Middle Ages in England, when parish churches and cathedrals hung a ring of candles in the chancel, symbolizing the star which guided the shepherds to the Christ child at Christmas and the Wise Men at Epiphany. The trendle in Christ Church is in loving memory of Margaret Murtagh Gray, George Doczi, a well-known architect and former parishioner, designed this beautiful wrought iron ring surmounted by brass angels holding 10 candles and it was made in the studio of Samuel Yellin, internationally known metal craftsman.
